A cluster of natural Australian sapphires in greens and teals, bezel-set with small diamonds scattered between them, across a wide 9ct yellow gold band. A bespoke piece, exclusive to Paton's Place.

Why this ring works

Sapphires from the Queensland and New South Wales gemfields come in these earthy blue-greens, teals and forest tones rather than the classic royal blue, often with two or three colours running through a single stone. It's a look you don't get from sapphires mined anywhere else, and it's become something collectors seek out.

The stones are set like a rock pool. Pears and ovals in a range of sizes sit bezelled in their own gold collars, clustered close and turned at different angles, with tiny round diamonds tucked into the gaps where they catch the light. Nothing is lined up in a neat row, which is what gives the ring its loose, organic feel. It builds up over the centre and tapers into a wide, comfortable band.

Because it's bespoke, this exact arrangement is one of a kind. The next one we make would draw on different sapphires and fall differently, so no two are ever quite the same.

About Australian sapphire

Australia is one of the world's great sapphire sources, with gemfields across central Queensland and northern New South Wales. Its sapphires are prized for their natural earth tones, the teals, greens and golds that set them apart from sapphires mined elsewhere, and many are worn untreated, just as they came out of the ground. As a form of corundum, sapphire is one of the hardest gemstones there is after diamond, so it takes everyday wear beautifully.
