What to know before you remodel.

Jewellery remodelling means taking jewellery you already own and changing it into something you’d rather wear. That might mean resetting existing stones into a new ring, turning a ring into a pendant, combining stones from several pieces, or changing the design while keeping the parts that matter to you.

A repair fixes what’s wrong while keeping the design. Restoration remakes or restores the piece while keeping the original design. Remodelling lets you keep what matters and change the rest.

No. You don’t need to arrive with a finished design worked out. Bring us the jewellery, or send us a few photos , and we can start by looking at what you have and what makes sense from there.

That’s fine. We’ll look at the piece and help work out whether repairing, restoring or remodelling it makes more sense. Remodelling isn’t automatically the right answer for every piece.

They can often be the starting point for the new piece. We’ll assess the jewellery first and look at what can be kept, what needs attention and what will work in the new design.

Yes. A remodel can bring stones from several pieces together. We’ve taken the stones from three separate rings, for example, and brought them together in one new ring.

Absolutely. If you’d like to add stones to the new design, we can source them for you.

Yes. A ring can become a pendant. A brooch can become a ring. Several pieces can become one. The original jewellery is the starting point; the new piece doesn’t have to copy its original form.

At your remodelling consultation , bring the jewellery you’re considering remodelling. We’ll look at the piece, what can be kept, what needs attention and the options available to you. Then we can talk through the direction and what makes sense for the jewellery.

Yes. We’ll talk through what we recommend and provide a quote before anything goes ahead.

There isn’t one standard price for a remodel. We need to see the jewellery and understand what you’re considering before we can quote the work. You’ll receive a quote before anything goes ahead.

Allow around 6–8 weeks from approval to completion.

Yes. Send us a few clear photos and tell us what you know about the jewellery. A photo of the whole piece and a close-up of the stones or setting is ideal. You can upload more than one.

The pieces people bring us are irreplaceable, and we treat them that way. Paton’s has been looking after customers’ jewellery for more than 50 years, and we know the value of a piece isn’t always what it’s worth on paper.

When jewellery comes into our care, we photograph and record it so there is a clear record of what has been left with us. We also have collection procedures in place, with the appropriate documentation and checks required before jewellery is handed back to you.

We have important jewellery of our own. We know what it feels like to hand over something you couldn’t simply replace, and we take that responsibility seriously.
