About opal
Opal is Australia's national gemstone, and the country produces most of the world's supply, so it's a stone with a real local story. It's made of tiny spheres of hydrated silica packed together, and it's the way those spheres bend light that creates the flashes of colour, the "play-of-colour" that no two opals share. A white opal like this has a pale, milky body with those flecks of green, orange and red dancing across it. Opal is a softer, more delicate stone than most, and it holds a little water, so it's worth some care: keep it clear of knocks, sudden temperature changes and harsh chemicals, take the earrings off before anything rough, and a gentle wipe with a soft, damp cloth is all it needs.
