Pear Peridot Ring | 9ct Yellow Gold

A bright green pear-cut peridot set on the diagonal, claw-held where two fine bands of 9ct yellow gold split and pass around it. Natural peridot, the August birthstone, on a design that feels light and a little different.

The ring is built from multiple slim bands rather than one, and the peridot bridges the gap between them at an angle, so the stone looks like it's floating in the opening. Three claws hold it and nothing else competes, which keeps the whole thing open and airy on the finger.

About peridot
Peridot is the gem form of a mineral called olivine, and it's one of the very few stones that comes in only one colour. Most gems get their colour from a stray trace of something else in the crystal, but peridot's green is built into the stone itself, set by the iron in its make-up, which is why it holds that steady olive-to-lime green rather than drifting from one stone to the next. It forms deep in the earth's mantle and is carried up by volcanoes, and a little has even turned up inside meteorites.
