Oval Ruby & Diamond Pendant | 9ct Yellow Gold

A deep red oval ruby cupped at the base of a curving teardrop of 9ct yellow gold, with three small diamonds set along the sweep above it. Natural ruby, the July birthstone, on a design that actually moves.

This one is a warm, saturated red, held in a half-bezel so the gold wraps and protects the edge of the stone while leaving the face open to the light. The three diamonds run in a graduated line along the curve, picking up light on the way down to the ruby without pulling focus off it. The whole piece is built around one flowing line, so it sits and swings nicely on the chain.

About ruby
Ruby is the red variety of corundum, the same mineral as sapphire, coloured by a trace of chromium in the crystal. That same chromium is what makes a fine ruby seem to almost glow. It sits at 9 on the hardness scale, second only to diamond, which is part of why it has been worn and treasured for thousands of years and stands up so well to everyday wear. The most prized stones show a pure, saturated red, and good natural ruby in a clean colour like this is genuinely hard to come by.
