About rhodolite garnet
Rhodolite is nothing like the dark red garnet most people have in mind. It's a natural blend of two garnet types, pyrope and almandine, and that mix is what pulls the colour toward raspberry and rose with a violet lean rather than plain red. 

Hardness: 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale
Birthstone: garnet is January's stone, and rhodolite is a member of the garnet family
