A 2.03ct emerald cut lab grown diamond engagement ring, held in a four-claw white gold head between bypass diamond-set shoulders, in 18ct white gold. An emerald cut has long, parallel step facets, so you see into the stone rather than just off its surface, and it gives broad flashes of light instead of scattered sparkle. That openness shows clarity more than a brilliant cut does, and at D colour and VS1 clarity this stone is completely colourless and clean to the eye. The four claws sit on the corners, the most fragile part of an emerald cut and the part most likely to chip if exposed. The shoulders don't meet the stone head-on. They split and curve past it from opposite directions, one from above and one from below, and 16 round brilliants carry the sparkle out in diagonal lines. In all white gold, nothing warms the stone, and the clean geometry of the cut and the bypass reads crisply.
