18ct Yellow Gold Natural Fancy Coloured Diamond Ring

A scatter of thirteen natural fancy coloured diamonds — pink, blue, green, yellow, orange and brown — set across an open gallery between two pavé diamond rails on an 18ct yellow gold band.

Why this ring works

The coloured diamonds are the entire story. Every stone in the central gallery is a natural fancy coloured diamond — not treated, not lab-grown, not white diamonds with colour coating. Natural coloured diamonds are formed when trace elements or structural anomalies enter the carbon lattice during formation: boron creates blue, nitrogen creates yellow and orange, structural distortion creates pink and red.

The setting style is what makes it wearable as well as collectible. Instead of locking the coloured diamonds away as untouchable showpieces, they've been bezel-set in scattered formation across an open gallery — some in white gold collars, some in yellow, some in rose, depending on which metal best complements each stone's colour. 

The two pavé rails of white diamonds bordering the gallery (54 stones, 0.27ct total) frame the coloured diamonds without competing with them. They add brightness to the edges and give the ring its width and presence without overpowering the colour palette in the centre.

The Rio Tinto lot number is what separates this ring from anything similar on the market. It documents the provenance of the coloured stones back to Rio Tinto's natural coloured diamond inventory.
