Emerald-Cut Peridot & Diamond Ring | 9ct Yellow Gold

An emerald-cut peridot set east-west in a clean bezel, with a small bezel-set diamond on each side. Natural peridot, the August birthstone, on a slim 9ct yellow gold band that keeps everything low and easy to wear.

The peridot lies across the finger rather than up and down, which shows off the long lines of the emerald cut and makes the stone look wider on the hand. A full gold bezel wraps the edge and protects it, and the two little diamonds sit in their own round bezels either side, lifting the green without taking anything from it. The band stays fine and simple so the balance sits with the centre stone. Understated, and comfortable for every day.

About peridot
Peridot is the gem form of a mineral called olivine, and it's one of the very few stones that comes in only one colour. Most gems get their colour from a stray trace of something else in the crystal, but peridot's green is built into the stone itself, set by the iron in its make-up, which is why it holds that steady olive-to-lime green rather than drifting from one stone to the next. It forms deep in the earth's mantle and is carried up by volcanoes, and a little has even turned up inside meteorites.
