9ct YG Blue Topaz with Sky Blue & London Blue Halo Ring

An emerald-cut blue topaz at the centre, framed by a halo that alternates two shades of blue, all claw-set on a fine 9ct yellow gold band. A halo ring built on colour rather than white diamonds.

The two-tone halo is what sets it apart. Most halos run a single shade, usually small white diamonds, sometimes one matching colour. This one alternates sky blue topaz, a soft icy pale blue, with London blue topaz, a deep inky, almost teal blue, so the frame has a rhythm and some depth to it rather than sitting flat. The pale centre stone reads bright against the darker stones around it, and the warm gold keeps the whole cool-blue palette from feeling cold.

About blue topaz
Blue topaz is one of the more accessible coloured stones and one of the most versatile, because it comes in such a spread of blues. The trade sorts it into three main shades: sky blue (pale and icy), Swiss blue (a bright mid-blue) and London blue (the deepest, inkiest and most collectible), and this ring plays two of them against each other. Almost all blue topaz begins life colourless and is treated to draw the blue out, which is standard across the trade and completely stable.
