Concept Design: Vintage Marquise
A marquise cut centre diamond framed by a matching halo, with bezel-set marquise accent diamonds on each shoulder and a diamond-set tapered band, all in 18ct white gold.
What is a vintage-inspired engagement ring?
Vintage-inspired engagement rings borrow design language from earlier eras — most commonly the art deco period of the 1920s and 30s, or the edwardian and victorian periods before it. The hallmarks are geometric symmetry, architectural detailing, mixed cuts in a single composition, and an emphasis on the metalwork rather than just the centre stone.
These designs read as distinctly different to modern engagement rings, which tend toward minimalism and a single large centre diamond. A vintage-inspired ring is layered. There's a lot going on, and each detail has a purpose.
This concept
This version has a marquise cut centre diamond framed by a halo that follows the marquise silhouette exactly, pointed at top and bottom, curved on the sides. Two bezel-set marquise accent diamonds sit on each shoulder, oriented horizontally to echo the centre stone. A diamond-set tapered band runs down to the shank.
The whole composition has art deco influences in the geometric symmetry and the way the marquise shapes are repeated at different scales. The centre marquise, the halo silhouette, and the bezel-set shoulder accents all share the same elongated shape, which gives the design a sense of intentional repetition.
Everything can be changed
This is a starting point, not the only option. You can change:
- Centre stone shape (marquise as pictured, or oval, pear, emerald, cushion — any elongated cut works with this halo style)
- Stone type (diamond, sapphire, ruby, emerald, your partner's birthstone, an heirloom stone reset)
- Lab grown or natural diamond
- Carat weight
- Metal (yellow gold, white gold, rose gold, two-tone, platinum)
- Shoulder accents (marquise as pictured, or round, pear, baguette)
- Band style (diamond-set tapered as pictured, plain tapered, or a wider art deco band with milgrain detail)
Pricing
Custom pricing depends on stone size, type, and metal. Designs with extensive diamond-set work like this typically carry a higher making fee than standard settings due to the additional setting work required.
