Concept Design: Sculpted Pear

A pear cut diamond set horizontally in a half-bezel, cradled by a flowing twisted 18ct yellow gold band.

What makes this design different

Most engagement rings treat the centre stone and the band as separate elements. The diamond sits on top, the band runs underneath, and the two meet at the head. This design treats the ring as a single sculptural form. The band sweeps up and around the diamond, partially wrapping it in metal before flowing back into the shank on the other side.

The pear is set sideways rather than vertically, which lets the curved bezel follow the natural teardrop shape of the stone. The bezel only wraps part of the diamond, leaving the top open so light can still enter the stone freely. From above, the ring reads as one continuous flowing line of gold with a diamond suspended inside it.

It's a design for buyers who want something properly distinctive. Not a variation of a classic style. Not a familiar shape with a twist. Something genuinely architectural that doesn't look like other engagement rings.

This concept

This version uses a pear cut diamond set east-west, with a half-bezel in 18ct yellow gold that flows directly into a twisted band. The whole ring is one continuous piece of metalwork, hand-formed to create the sculpted silhouette. The warmth of the yellow gold against the white of the diamond gives the design its character.

Everything can be changed

This is a starting point, not the only option. You can change:

  • Stone shape (pear as pictured, or marquise, oval)
  • Stone type (diamond, sapphire, ruby, emerald, your partner's birthstone, an heirloom stone reset)
  • Lab grown or natural diamond
  • Carat weight
  • Metal (yellow gold, white gold, rose gold, two-tone, platinum)
  • Bezel coverage (half bezel as pictured, full bezel, or partial bezel with claws)
  • Band style (twisted as pictured, smooth flowing, or a more architectural sweep)
  • Orientation (set sideways as pictured, or vertically)

A note on wedding bands

A flowing sculpted design like this won't sit flush against a standard straight wedding band, so a custom-shaped wedding band is usually part of the picture. This is normal for any non-traditional engagement ring shape, and it's something we'll walk you through during your consultation. We design the engagement ring and wedding band together so they fit perfectly as a set, and the wedding band can be made at the same time or further down the track when you're ready.

Pricing

Custom pricing depends on stone size, type, and metal. Designs with custom metalwork like this typically carry a higher making fee than standard settings due to the additional hand-finishing required.
