Concept Design: Halo Marquise

A single marquise cut diamond framed by a halo of accent diamonds, set in 18ct white gold on a slim plain band.

What is a marquise cut?

The marquise cut is an elongated stone with curved sides and two pointed ends, originally created in the 18th century. The shape is dramatic and distinctive — it sits longer on the finger than almost any other cut, which makes the diamond appear visually larger than a round of the same carat weight and gives the hand an elongated, sculptural look.

It's also one of the most underrated diamond shapes we sell. Marquise cuts had a moment in the 80s and 90s, fell out of fashion for a couple of decades, and have come back strongly in the last few years as buyers move away from the more common round and oval cuts.

What is a halo?

A halo is a ring of small accent diamonds set around the centre stone. It does two things: it makes the centre diamond look visibly larger by extending its visual footprint, and it adds extra sparkle around the edge of the stone.

In this design, the halo follows the elongated marquise silhouette exactly, pointed at the top and bottom, curved on the sides. The shape of the halo is determined by the shape of the stone, which is why a halo marquise reads as distinctly different from a halo round or halo oval.

This concept

This version pairs a marquise cut diamond with a matching halo in 18ct white gold, set on a slim plain band. The all-white-gold construction keeps the look clean and icy, with no warm tones interrupting the diamond. The V-claws at the top and bottom protect the marquise's pointed tips, where chips happen most easily if left exposed.

Everything can be changed

This is a starting point, not the only option. You can change:

  • Stone shape (marquise, oval, pear, emerald, radiant, cushion — any cut works with a halo)
  • Stone type (diamond, sapphire, ruby, emerald, your partner's birthstone, an heirloom stone reset)
  • Lab grown or natural diamond
  • Carat weight
  • Metal (yellow gold, white gold, rose gold, two-tone, platinum)
  • Halo style (classic halo as pictured, hidden halo, double halo)
  • Band style (plain, diamond-set, twisted, tapered, wider, thinner)
