About aquamarine
Aquamarine is the pale blue member of the beryl family, the same species as emerald, and it takes its colour from a trace of iron in the crystal. The name comes straight from the Latin for sea water, which is exactly the tone it holds, that clear, watery blue. It's a well-loved stone with real history, long associated with the sea and once carried by sailors for safe passage. At 7.5 to 8 on the hardness scale it wears well day to day, which is part of why it suits a ring, and warm soapy water with a soft brush keeps it bright.
