9ct Yellow Gold Australian Green Sapphire Baguette Ring | Sapphire Dreams

Sale price$4,250.00
Only 1 left

Nine baguette cut natural Australian green sapphires, claw-set in a continuous row on a 9ct yellow gold band. Part of our Sapphire Dreams collection.

Not a centre stone, not a halo, but a deliberate line of green sapphire baguettes, cut and set to read as a single ribbon of colour across the finger.

Why this ring works

The baguette cut gives this ring its character. Baguettes are rectangular step-cut stones with open, mirror-like facets running parallel to the edges and no brilliance-style sparkle. Where a round brilliant scatters light, a baguette holds it in flat planes, so you see into the stone rather than just off it. It's a cut that rewards good colour and clean material, because there's nowhere to hide. The fact these stones were cut as baguettes tells you the rough was good to begin with.

Nine of them in a row makes one continuous band of colour. Matching nine baguettes in tone, saturation and cut is harder than it sounds. Australian sapphires come out of the ground in a wide range of greens, and pulling nine that read as a single colour family takes time and a good eye. Each stone here has been hand-selected to match the others, which is why the row reads as one ribbon rather than nine separate gems.

The stones

Sapphires: 9 baguette cut, natural Australian green
Total carat weight: 3.27ct
Colour: Hand-selected and matched in tone and saturation

Australian green sapphires are mined locally, mostly around Anakie, Inverell and the Lava Plains, and they're known for deep, natural green tones you don't get from sapphires sourced anywhere else. Each stone has its own slightly different character, part of what makes this ring feel made rather than manufactured.

The setting

Metal: 9ct yellow gold (stamped 375)
Style: Nine-stone baguette row, claw-set
Band: Half-round

About Australian sapphire

Australia is one of the world's great sapphire sources, with gemfields across central Queensland and northern New South Wales. Its sapphires run from deep blue to teal, green and gold, and many are worn untreated, just as they came out of the ground. As a form of corundum, sapphire is one of the hardest gemstones there is after diamond, so it takes everyday wear beautifully.

Hardness: 9 on the Mohs scale
Birthstone: September
