9ct Yellow Gold Amethyst & Rhodolite Garnet Trilogy Ring
An emerald cut amethyst centre flanked by two oval cut rhodolite garnets, claw-set on a 9ct yellow gold band.
This is a ring that pairs two coloured stones that most never think to put together, and it just works.
Why this ring works
The colour pairing is the design hook. Amethyst, soft, dreamy purple, sits in the centre, with two rhodolite garnets in saturated raspberry-pink flanking it on either side. Purple and pink might sound risky on paper, but in jewellery these two colours sit in the same warm-toned family and lift each other beautifully. The amethyst reads softer and more dreamy next to the deeper raspberry tones of the rhodolite, and the rhodolite reads more vivid and saturated next to the cooler purple. They're complementary in a way that white diamond shoulders never quite achieve.
A note on amethyst: it's one of the most historically significant gemstones in human use. Ancient Greeks believed it prevented intoxication (the name comes from amethystos, meaning "not drunk"), and it was considered as valuable as ruby and emerald until major deposits were discovered in Brazil in the 19th century. Today it's the birthstone of February and one of the most universally flattering coloured gemstones in fine jewellery.
