Peridot & Diamond Pendant | 9ct Yellow Gold

A round brilliant peridot at the centre of an ornate diamond-set frame, worked in 9ct yellow gold in a cross or star shape with fine beaded detail throughout. 

The centre stone is claw-set and clean, and everything around it is built to frame that green. Diamonds gather into four arms that reach out top, bottom and sides, each cluster edged in milgrain beading, so the piece reads with an antique, almost heirloom feel. It's detailed up close and still holds a clear shape from a distance, the green core sitting bright against all the white and gold around it.

About peridot
Peridot is the gem form of a mineral called olivine, and it's one of the very few stones that comes in only one colour. Most gems get their colour from a stray trace of something else in the crystal, but peridot's green is built into the stone itself, set by the iron in its make-up, which is why it holds that steady olive-to-lime green rather than drifting from one stone to the next. It forms deep in the earth's mantle and is carried up by volcanoes, and a little has even turned up inside meteorites.
