Pear Ruby & Diamond Teardrop Pendant | 9ct Yellow Gold

A pear-cut ruby bezel-set at the centre of an open teardrop of 9ct yellow gold, with a fine line of diamonds tracing the outline all the way round. Natural ruby, the July birthstone, sitting in the negative space like a drop suspended in a frame.

The design works on contrast. The ruby is a deep, warm red held snug in a bezel, while the diamonds run as a slim pavé outline around the open teardrop, so the two never crowd each other. A single diamond sits at the bail up top, finishing the line. There's a gap of gold and air between the stone and the surround, which is what gives it that floating look.

About ruby
Ruby is the red variety of corundum, the same mineral as sapphire, and one of the hardest gemstones there is after diamond.
