Sale price$2,990.00
Only 1 left

A 2.63ct pear-shaped grey spinel framed by a halo of 21 round grey spinels, on a fine 9ct white gold band.

This is a ring for someone drawn to the unusual. Grey spinel sits somewhere between smoke and silver, a colour you don't see often.

Why this ring works

Grey spinel is the quiet show-off of the gemstone world. Most people have never heard of it, which is half the appeal. It's a completely natural gemstone, not treated, not synthetic, with a steely, slightly metallic colour that shifts between charcoal, silver and soft lavender depending on the light.

The pear shape gives this ring its character. It's an elongated, asymmetric cut that points down the finger. Paired with a halo that follows the same teardrop silhouette, the whole ring reads as one continuous shape rather than a stone sitting inside a frame.

The halo is grey spinel too, not diamond, which is the detail most people miss at first glance. Using matched stones instead of contrasting white diamonds keeps the colour tight and the ring feeling cohesive. It's a softer, more tonal look than a traditional halo, and it makes the centre stone feel like it belongs in the setting rather than dropped into it.

The stones

Centre: Pear-shaped natural grey spinel, 2.63ct
Halo: 21 round brilliant cut natural grey spinels, 0.40ct total
Total carat weight: 3.03ct

Spinel is one of the few coloured gemstones that's almost never heat-treated or enhanced, so what you see is what came out of the ground.

The setting

Metal: 9ct white gold (stamped 375)
Style: Pear-shaped halo, claw-set centre and halo
Band: 2.20mm

About spinel

Spinel is a natural gemstone that comes in a wide range of colours, from red and pink through to blue, violet and this unusual steely grey. Long confused with ruby and sapphire in historic jewellery, it's prized today for being naturally coloured and rarely treated. A hard, bright stone that wears well every day.

Hardness: 8 on the Mohs scale
Birthstone: August (spinel is a modern birthstone for August)
