One round diamond sits in the centre, with a ring of smaller diamonds around it. The white gold between the stones is polished bright, so it picks up light as well. From a normal distance the pendant reads as one round stone rather than a group of small ones. It's a smart way to get a bigger-looking diamond from 0.25ct.

About diamonds
A natural diamond is pure carbon that crystallised deep in the earth's mantle, usually more than 150km down, under enormous heat and pressure. Most are between one and three and a half billion years old. They reached the surface in deep volcanic eruptions, carried up in a rock called kimberlite. That tight carbon structure makes diamond the hardest natural material we know of. It also gives it the high refractive index that sends so much light back out of a well-cut stone.

Hardness: 10 on the Mohs scale, the hardest of any gemstone. Small stones in a cluster are well protected, but it's still worth having the claws checked now and then.
