Emerald cut Ametrine earrings

The whole appeal of ametrine is that it's two stones in one. Amethyst and citrine are both quartz, and every so often nature grows them together in a single crystal, purple running into warm gold with a soft blend where they meet. Each of these has been emerald-cut to show that split off cleanly, the step facets opening the colour up so you can look straight through it.

Because they're drops, the colour keeps moving as they swing on the ear. The warm yellow gold sits with the citrine half and lifts the purple, so nothing fights for attention. Quiet from across a room, then a lot more interesting the closer you get.

About ametrine
Ametrine is one of the few gemstones that is genuinely two colours at once: amethyst and citrine, grown together in a single quartz crystal. The name is simply those two words run together. It happens when iron in the crystal meets different temperatures as it forms, one zone turning purple, the next warm gold, with a natural line where they meet. Nearly all of it in the world comes from a single mine in eastern Bolivia, which makes it far less common than either amethyst or citrine on their own.
