About mabé pearls
A mabé is a dome-shaped pearl, grown against the inside of the shell rather than free inside the oyster, which gives it that flat back and rounded, generous face, ideal for earrings and larger pieces. The dark colour here has the classic peacock look, a near-black base with blue, green and mauve moving across the surface. Like all pearls it's organic and softer than most stones, so it asks for a little care: keep it away from perfume, hairspray and household chemicals, put the earrings on after those rather than before, and wipe them with a soft cloth rather than soaking. Looked after kindly, pearls last a lifetime and well beyond.
