9ct Yellow Gold Australian Sapphire Five Stone Ring

Five round brilliant cut natural unheated Australian sapphires in alternating teal, yellow and green tones, rub-over set with milgrain detail on a half-round 9ct yellow gold band.

This is a ring built around a story most jewellery never tells: every stone is Australian, every stone is untreated, and no two are the same colour.

Why this ring works

The five sapphires are the entire point. These aren't matched stones from a parcel — they're hand-picked from different rough, in the natural colour range that Australian sapphires are known for: teal-blue, lemon-yellow, and forest-green. The colours sit next to each other in a deliberate sequence, so as the light catches the ring along your finger, you get a small colour gradient rather than a uniform sparkle.

What makes it more interesting: every sapphire here is unheated. The standard for most coloured sapphires globally is heat treatment, stones are heated to thousands of degrees to improve their colour and clarity. It's accepted practice, but it's a treatment. Unheated sapphires are rarer, more collectible, and considered the gold standard among gem buyers. The fact that all five stones in this ring are unheated, and all five are Australian-mined, is genuinely uncommon.

The rub-over settings with milgrain edging are doing two jobs. First, the rub-over (where the gold wraps around the edge of each stone instead of holding it with claws) keeps the ring snag-free and incredibly hard-wearing — no claws to bend, no edges to catch on knits. Second, the milgrain — that fine beaded texture around each setting — adds a soft heritage detail that nods to early 20th-century jewellery without feeling vintage-costume. It's a setting style that ages well.

The unheated, untreated status means each stone is exactly as it came out of the ground.
